Rhinecanthus rectangulus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Rhinecanthus rectangulus, the Wedge-tail or Rectangular Triggerfish, closely resembles the Picasso Triggerfish with its bold, graphic patterning and adds distinctive black diagonal stripes and a prominent black wedge marking on the tail base. Sharing the same robust, entertaining personality as its close relative, it is a characterful and visually striking fish for large predator FOWLR systems where its nipping behaviour can be contained.
Requires a minimum 350 L FOWLR system; not reef safe with invertebrates. Feed a varied diet of meaty frozen foods, shrimp, squid, and hard-shelled foods to keep teeth worn. Maintain temperature 22–27°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Introduce last to an established system to limit aggression. Can rearrange aquarium décor — secure all rock structures. Avoid housing with long-finned or small fish that will be harassed.
