Periclimenes brevicarpalis
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Periclimenes brevicarpalis is a delicate and fascinating anemone shrimp that lives commensally among the tentacles of sea anemones in the wild. Its nearly transparent body is decorated with distinctive white and orange-edged spots along the tail segments, creating an ethereal appearance. Among the most visually intriguing of the Periclimenes species, it is best kept with a compatible host anemone and surrounded by a peaceful reef community.
House with a compatible host anemone (bubble tip or carpet anemone) in a minimum 60 L well-established reef tank. Maintain temperature 23–27°C, SG 1.023–1.025. Feed meaty target food (mysis, chopped shrimp) near the anemone. Extremely sensitive to copper — never use copper-based medications. Peaceful with all non-predatory reef inhabitants. Handle the host anemone carefully to avoid stressing this shrimp.
