Gymnocorymbus ternetzi (albino var.)
Also known as: White Skirt Tetra, Albino Black Skirt Tetra, White Tetra
Origin: Captive-bred (wild origin: Paraguay, Paraná basin)
The White Skirt Tetra is an albino or leucistic variant of Gymnocorymbus ternetzi that presents a striking contrast to its dark wild-type relative. Its body is pristine white to pale cream, with translucent, ghostly fins that shimmer under aquarium lighting. Against a dark substrate and green plants, it creates a bold visual contrast. It retains all of the hardiness and adaptability of the wild type, making it one of the easiest tetras to keep. Prolific in captivity, it has been a reliable staple of the hobby for decades. It is also available in a glowfish dye-injected form, though the natural albino variety is far preferable.
Water: pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 20–27 °C; tolerates a wide range of conditions. Tank: 60 L minimum; dark substrate enhances the white coloration. Planted community setup. Feeding: Omnivore; accepts all standard aquarium foods without any difficulty. Breeding: Very easy egg-scatterer; spawns readily in neutral water. Albino trait is heritable. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable for almost any community tank. Avoid fin-nippers.
