Tropheus duboisi
Also known as: White-spotted Tropheus, Duboisi Cichlid
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Tropheus duboisi originates from the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika near Bemba and Halembe. Juveniles are adorned with brilliant white polka-dots on a jet-black body, gradually transitioning to the plain dark adult pattern with age. A strict herbivore requiring high-vegetable-matter feeding and group housing to curb aggression.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water (GH 10-20, KH 8-18). Tank: 250L minimum, dense rockwork with many caves; no sharp decor. Feeding: High-quality spirulina-based flake/pellet; avoid protein-rich or fatty foods. Behaviour: Keep in groups of 12+ to spread aggression; dominant males court females vigorously. Compatibility: Best with other robust Tanganyika species — other Tropheus, large Neolamprologus, or Petrochromis.
