Wetmorella albofasciata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Wetmorella albofasciata is a small, secretive possum wrasse from Indo-Pacific rubble zones and coral heads, bearing a dark body crossed by two vivid white bands and equipped with a false eyespot near the tail to deter predators. It spends most of its time sheltering within branching corals, crevices, and caves, emerging cautiously to hunt small invertebrates. A fascinating cryptic species for peaceful nano reef communities where it adds ecological interest beyond typical open-water fish.
Provide a minimum 80 L reef tank richly furnished with live rock crevices and coral branches as shelter. Feed finely minced frozen mysis, copepods, and small pellets near hiding places. Maintain temperature 24–27°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Keep only in completely peaceful communities — this timid species will be easily outcompeted or stressed by boisterous tank mates. Possum wrasses are reef safe and will not harm corals.
