Symphysodon haraldi (Cuipeua)
Also known as: Wild Cuipeua Blue Discus, Cuipeua Discus
Origin: Wild-caught, Cuipeua, Amazonas, Brazil
The Wild Cuipeua Blue Discus hails from the Cuipeua region of the central Amazon, a locality long celebrated among wild discus enthusiasts for producing specimens with exceptionally dense, electric-blue horizontal striping that extends further down the flanks than most other wild-caught Blue Discus populations.
Cuipeua is among the most respected locality names in the wild discus trade, and fish carrying this provenance command a premium because of the distinctive coloration associated with the population. The deep cobalt-to-electric blue striping against the characteristic brown base is immediately recognisable to experienced collectors.
Care follows strict wild discus protocol: blackwater conditions with very soft, warm, acidic water. These fish are not recommended for beginners and should only be acquired by experienced discus keepers capable of maintaining appropriate conditions.
Water: 28-31°C, pH 5.0-6.5, very soft (0-5 dGH), KH 0-2; blackwater or peat-filtered RO water. Tank: Minimum 300 L, Indian almond leaves, driftwood, dark substrate, minimal light intensity. Feeding: Live and frozen bloodworm, beefheart, artemia; dry food acceptance may take weeks to achieve. Breeding: Open spawner; locality fish benefit from very soft (<3 dGH), acidic (pH 5.0-5.5) breeding water. Compatibility: Wild discus experts only; compatible with cardinal tetras and small peaceful blackwater species.
