Symphysodon tarzoo
Origin: Wild caught
Symphysodon tarzoo, the wild Green Discus, is collected from western Amazonian tributaries in Peru and Colombia and displays a naturally stunning green body colouration with intricate patterning that captive strains cannot fully replicate. Highly prized by biotope aquarium enthusiasts across Europe, particularly in Belgium and the Netherlands, for the authenticity and natural character that only a wild-caught specimen can provide. Expert blackwater husbandry is required.
Maintain in groups of 5 or more in a minimum 250 L Amazonian blackwater biotope: pH 5.0–6.5, GH 0–5, KH 0–2, temperature 28–31°C. Use RO water, driftwood, and dried leaves. Daily or every-other-day 25–30% water changes are essential. Feed live and frozen foods initially — frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, beef heart mix. Wild specimens require exceptional water quality and a stress-free environment to thrive long-term.
