Symphysodon aequifasciatus
Origin: Wild caught
These premium wild-collected Royal Blue Discus originate from select Amazonian localities known to produce the most intense natural blue patterning, the colouration that originally inspired decades of European captive breeding programmes. Wild specimens carry a natural character, fin posture, and behaviour that captive strains cannot fully replicate, making them exceptionally valuable to Dutch and Belgian purists seeking authentic specimens for specialist biotope or show aquariums.
Maintain in groups of 5 or more in a minimum 300 L Amazonian blackwater biotope: pH 5.0–6.5, GH 0–5, KH 0–2, temperature 28–31°C. Use RO-prepared soft, acidic water with tannins from driftwood and dried leaves. Daily or every-other-day water changes of 25–30% essential. Feed live and frozen bloodworms, beef heart mix, and high-quality discus pellets. Wild specimens are sensitive to stress — minimise disturbance during acclimation.
