Symphysodon aequifasciatus axelrodi (Tefé)
Also known as: Wild Tefé Brown Discus, Tefé Brown Discus
Origin: Wild-caught, Tefé, Amazonas, Brazil
The Wild Tefé Brown Discus is the third colour form from the celebrated Tefé locality, sitting alongside the famous Tefé Royal Blue and Tefé Green in representing one of the most important wild discus collection sites in the Amazon. Tefé Browns display the characteristically warm honey-to-chestnut base colour of brown discus, enhanced by the locality's signature vivid red eye rings and occasional bright turquoise-blue fin markings.
While less immediately spectacular than the Tefé Blue or Tefé Heckel, the Tefé Brown is consistently noted by collectors for its exceptional body proportions — the full, round, deep disc shape that defines a quality discus is reliably expressed in fish from this locality.
For those unable to source Tefé Blue or Heckel, the Tefé Brown provides access to the locality's renowned quality at a more accessible price, while remaining a challenging and rewarding wild discus to keep.
