Rhinogobius wuyanlingensis
Origin: China (Zhejiang Province)
Rhinogobius wuyanlingensis is a recently described freshwater goby from the mountain streams of Zhejiang Province, China, where males display attractively spotted orange and blue fins that they spread aggressively during territorial encounters. Lively and personable, disputes between males are animated but rarely cause lasting harm. Prefers cool, fast-flowing, well-oxygenated water with rocky substrate and plenty of hiding places — a biotope setup replicating Chinese hill streams is ideal.
House in a 60 L or larger tank with strong oxygenation, rocky substrate, and abundant hiding places (smooth river pebbles, flat slate, PVC tubes). Keep males at a ratio of one per 30 L of bottom space to manage territorial behaviour. Feed live and frozen invertebrates: bloodworms, daphnia, small earthworms. Maintain temperature 16–22°C — no heater required in a cool European room. Compatible with peaceful midwater species such as White Cloud Mountain Minnows.
