Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Origin: Captive bred
Yamabuki Ogon is a single-colour metallic koi in a rich, saturated golden-yellow tone that glows luminously in pond water, making it one of the most visually striking and immediately recognisable koi varieties. A top seller across Dutch aquatic centres for its bold, clean colouration that remains visible even in larger ponds with reduced water clarity. A superb addition to any mixed koi collection where its metallic sheen provides contrast against patterned varieties.
Maintain in a minimum 1,000 L pond with excellent filtration — koi are high-waste fish. Temperature 5–25°C; fully cold-hardy in Belgian/Dutch outdoor ponds. Feed quality koi pellets appropriate to water temperature: stop feeding below 10°C. Perform 10–15% weekly water changes. Provide a depth of at least 1 m for thermal stability in summer. Protect from herons with netting. Regular health inspections for parasites and ulcers are recommended.
