Requires a minimum 5,000 L pond appropriate for a large, growing koi. Maintain excellent filtration with combined mechanical and biological filtration stages. Temperature 5–25°C; fully cold-hardy. Feed premium koi pellets calibrated to water temperature. Ensure adequate pond depth (1.5 m+) for thermal stability and predator avoidance. Water quality should be routinely tested for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Health monitoring by a koi veterinarian is recommended annually.
