Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Also known as: Yamabuki Ogon, Yellow Koi, Golden Koi
Origin: Japan
Yamabuki Ogon displays a rich, warm yellow metallic sheen that stands out even in murky pond water. Named for the yellow flowers of the Japanese kerria shrub, it is one of the most cheerful and distinctive single-color koi. Like all Ogon varieties, it is relatively easy to care for and develops a tame, hand-feeding behavior quickly.
Water: 5–25°C, pH 6.8–7.8, good pond filtration to maintain the golden sheen. Pond: minimum 1,000 L; the yellow color is best appreciated in sunny, well-lit ponds. Feeding: quality koi pellets; color-enhancing carotenoid foods deepen yellow pigment. Behaviour: friendly and approachable; one of the first koi to learn hand-feeding. Compatibility: excellent with all other koi varieties.
