Stonogobiops yasha
Origin: Western Pacific, Japan
Stonogobiops yasha is one of the most coveted gobies in the marine hobby, displaying a stunning white body with bold red-orange diagonal stripes and an eye-catching elongated dorsal fin filament that immediately identifies it. Relatively rare in the trade, it forms a classic mutual symbiosis with Alpheid pistol shrimp — the shrimp excavates and maintains the shared burrow while the goby serves as a sharp-eyed lookout sentinel. An extraordinary behavioural display for peaceful reef aquariums with sand beds.
Provide a minimum 80 L reef tank with a deep fine sand bed and live rock. Pair with an Alpheid pistol shrimp for natural symbiosis behaviour. Feed frozen mysis, copepods, and nano pellets twice daily. Maintain temperature 24–28°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Use a tight-fitting lid — Stonogobiops species are jumpers. Keep only one per tank without a confirmed mated pair. Peaceful with all non-predatory reef inhabitants.
