Assessor flavissimus
Origin: Coral Sea, Australia
Assessor flavissimus is a uniformly vivid-yellow assessor basslet from the Coral Sea that shares its close relative's habit of swimming inverted beneath overhangs and deep inside caves. Its striking colouration makes it highly visible even in dimly lit reef recesses, and it is fully reef safe. Can be kept in small compatible groups, making it one of the few marine fish suitable for small social groupings in medium reef tanks without the risk of territorial conflict.
Provide a minimum 115 L reef tank with overhangs, caves, and crevices that this species will claim as shelter. Keep singly or in small groups of 3 or more; keep odd numbers to diffuse aggression. Feed frozen mysis, copepods, and small meaty foods twice daily. Maintain temperature 23–26°C, SG 1.021–1.025. A peaceful species that is fully compatible with corals, shrimp, and most reef fish. Ensure a lid — assessors will jump.
