Gobiodon okinawae
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Okinawa
Gobiodon okinawae is one of the most recognisable nano reef inhabitants — a tiny, uniformly brilliant-yellow fish that shelters exclusively within the branches of staghorn and table Acropora corals. Pairs can be kept on a single coral colony, and the goby's mucus is mildly toxic, providing it protection from larger predators. Its petite size and completely peaceful disposition make it a perfect candidate for pico and nano reef systems where larger fish would be unsuitable.
Provide at least one established staghorn Acropora colony as a host coral in a minimum 40 L nano reef. Feed finely crushed reef pellets and frozen copepods near the coral. Maintain temperature 24–28°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Pairs will form naturally if two young individuals are introduced together. Reef safe — does not harm corals. Avoid large, predatory, or boisterous tank mates.
