Symphysodon aequifasciatus
Origin: Captive bred
This captive-bred Yellow Discus displays a clean lemon-to-golden yellow body colouration, often accented with faint patterning that adds depth under warm-spectrum aquarium lighting. Cheerful and eye-catching, it is highly sought after in Belgian and Dutch aquatic centres for its ability to brighten any display aquarium with a warm, sunny presence. Requires the same exacting soft, warm water conditions as all discus varieties.
Maintain in groups of at least 5 in a minimum 200 L tank with very soft, warm water: pH 6.0–7.0, GH 2–8, KH 0–3, temperature 28–31°C. Perform 25–30% water changes every 1–2 days. Feed quality beef heart mix, frozen bloodworms, and discus-specific pellets. Showcase under 3000K warm-spectrum LED lighting to maximise the yellow colouration. Stable conditions are essential to prevent stress-related darkening of colour.
