Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Yellow Fire Shrimp, Yellow Neocaridina, Lemon Shrimp
Origin: Captive bred (originally East Asia)
The Yellow Fire Shrimp is a high-grade yellow Neocaridina davidi line bred for maximum colour saturation, displaying a uniform, dense lemon-yellow colouration throughout the body. Premium females are fully opaque yellow with no transparency, making them visually striking even in heavily planted tanks where smaller shrimp can be difficult to spot.
Like all Neocaridina, this morph is undemanding regarding water chemistry. It adapts readily to typical tap water parameters and is among the easiest freshwater shrimp to keep. It grazes continuously on biofilm, algae, and organic matter, contributing to the general cleanliness of the aquarium.
The Yellow Fire Shrimp is compatible with other peaceful Neocaridina morphs, though cross-breeding will produce offspring of mixed colouration. A species-only tank or single-morph tank is recommended to maintain colour purity.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; tolerates most dechlorinated tap water. Tank: minimum 20 L, dark substrate maximises visual impact; mosses and fine plants essential. Feeding: algae wafers, spirulina tabs, blanched courgette, dedicated shrimp pellets. Breeding: easy; females carry 20–35 eggs for 3–4 weeks; juveniles self-sufficient in mature tank. Compatibility: peaceful with small fish; never mix with species that predate invertebrates.
