Labidochromis caeruleus
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Labidochromis caeruleus is one of the most popular and widely kept mbuna from Lake Malawi, celebrated for its clean lemon-yellow body with elegant black trim on its dorsal and anal fins. Unlike the majority of mbuna, it is relatively peaceful and is one of the few African cichlids that can be safely mixed with a variety of community species in a large rocky Malawi aquarium. An excellent entry point into African cichlid keeping.
House in a minimum 200 L tank furnished with stacked rocks providing numerous caves and territories. Maintain pH 7.5–8.5, GH 10–20, KH 8–15, temperature 24–28°C. Feed a varied diet including mbuna flake, spirulina, and occasional frozen invertebrates. Can be mixed with other peaceful to semi-aggressive cichlids of similar size. Avoid very aggressive mbuna species in the same setup. Overfiltration is recommended for all Malawi cichlid tanks.
