Hyphessobrycon roseus
Also known as: Yellow Phantom Tetra
Origin: Colombia (Magdalena River basin)
Hyphessobrycon roseus, the Yellow Phantom Tetra, originates from Colombia's Magdalena basin. Males display a striking elongated dorsal fin and warm golden-yellow coloration. It shares the graceful body shape of other phantom tetras but is less commonly seen in the hobby, making it a sought-after species for enthusiasts of smaller characterful tetras in planted or biotope aquariums.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft acidic water enhances colour. Tank: 60 L minimum; well-planted with open swimming lanes and dim, warm lighting. Feeding: Quality micro-pellets, flake, and frozen small invertebrates. Behaviour: Peaceful, sociable; keep in groups of 6+; males may flare fins at each other. Compatibility: Ideal with small soft-water tetras, pencilfish, corydoras, and dwarf cichlids.
