Tylomelania sp.
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
The Yellow Rabbit Snail (Tylomelania sp.) is a striking elongated freshwater snail from Sulawesi with a vivid yellow body, characteristically wrinkled skin, and an endearingly rabbit-like facial expression. Slow-breeding and completely plant-safe, it grazes continuously on biofilm, algae, and detritus across all surfaces. It is best kept in pairs or small groups and requires the warm, hard, mineral-rich water conditions of its ancient Sulawesi lake origin.
Maintain in a minimum 30 L tank with temperature 26–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5, moderately hard water (GH 10–20, KH 6–12). Supplement with blanched spinach, zucchini, and sinking algae wafers when natural biofilm is limited. Breed very slowly — 1 live young per pregnancy — so population is naturally self-regulating. Sensitive to copper and fluctuating parameters. Compatible with other Sulawesi species and peaceful community fish.
