Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Yellow Tuxedo Guppy, Tuxedo Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (originally Trinidad)
The Yellow Tuxedo Guppy is a well-established captive strain defined by the tuxedo gene, which produces a crisp black colouration on the rear half of the body. This contrasts strikingly with the bright canary-yellow anterior and a sweeping yellow tail, creating a bold two-tone fish.
Tuxedo guppies are among the easiest fancy strains to maintain and are tolerant of a range of water conditions, making them ideal for beginners seeking a show-quality fish without demanding husbandry.
The strain breeds true when kept isolated and will produce consistent tuxedo-patterned offspring with each generation.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderate hardness acceptable. Tank: 60 L minimum; plants and hiding spots appreciated; gentle filtration. Feeding: Quality flake and pellet; supplement with live or frozen Artemia and Daphnia for best colour. Breeding: Prolific livebearer; fry easy to raise on crushed flake and baby brine shrimp. Compatibility: Excellent community fish; ideal with small peaceful species.
