Pseudochromis flavivertex
Origin: Red Sea, Gulf of Aden
Pseudochromis flavivertex is a visually distinctive Red Sea dottyback bearing a bright sulphur-yellow head that transitions to a soft blue-grey body — a colour scheme unique within the genus. Originating from the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, it is occasionally captive-bred but remains relatively uncommon in trade. Once established in a mature reef tank it is hardy, active, and makes a colourful centrepiece for smaller reef displays.
Provide a minimum 75 L reef tank with ample cave and crevice hiding places among live rock. Feed frozen mysis, chopped shrimp, and small carnivore pellets twice daily. Maintain temperature 24–27°C, SG 1.021–1.025. Semi-aggressive toward other dottybacks and similarly small or peaceful fish — introduce only with larger, robust tank mates. Generally reef safe with corals and cleaner shrimp. Captive-bred specimens preferred for better temperament.
