Chromis flavicauda
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Chromis flavicauda is a small Pacific chromis displaying a clean white body contrasted by a vivid yellow tail fork — a sharp bicolour appearance that creates a luminous flashing effect as groups move through open water. It schools readily on outer coral slopes and reproduces this elegant behaviour in large reef aquariums where its combination of peaceable temperament and striking appearance make it one of the more desirable smaller damselfish for community reef displays.
Keep in groups of at least 5 in a 150 L or larger reef system. Provide open swimming space above rockwork. Feed small pellets, frozen mysis, and enriched brine shrimp twice daily. Maintain temperature 24–27°C, SG 1.021–1.025. Fully reef safe with corals, shrimp, and most reef fish. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as small chromis are prone to jumping when startled.
