Meiacanthus atrodorsalis
Origin: Western Pacific
Meiacanthus atrodorsalis, the Yellowtail Fang Blenny, displays a striking sky-blue anterior body that transitions abruptly into a vivid yellow tail, creating one of the most dramatic bicolour patterns in the blenny world. Like all fang blennies, it possesses rear canine fangs capable of delivering a mildly venomous bite if mishandled or severely harassed by predators, making it surprisingly well-defended for its small size. A hardy and charismatic reef fish that adds a bolt of vivid colour to any display.
Provide a minimum 100 L reef tank with perching spots and a rocky substrate. Feed a varied diet of small pellets, frozen mysis, and enriched brine shrimp twice daily. Maintain temperature 24–28°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Generally peaceful but will bite predatory fish if threatened — avoid housing with aggressors that continually harass it. Reef safe and compatible with corals and most invertebrates. Tends to perch on elevated rocks and coral heads.
