Botia almorhae
Also known as: YoYo Loach, Almora Loach, Reticulate Loach
Origin: India, Nepal
Botia almorhae earns its common name from the 'YoYo' and 'YOYO' markings visible in its reticulated silver-and-black pattern. An active shoaling species, it spends much of its time rooting through substrate in search of invertebrates and small snails. Best kept in groups of five or more to reduce inter-specimen aggression and encourage natural behaviour.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, moderate flow preferred. Tank: Minimum 120 L, smooth sand substrate, caves and driftwood essential. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm and daphnia; will eradicate pond snails. Behaviour: Active and boisterous shoaler; can produce audible clicking sounds. Compatibility: Peaceful with similarly sized fish; avoid very small nano species.
