Astatotilapia latifasciata
Origin: Lake Kyoga, Lake Victoria, Uganda
Astatotilapia latifasciata, the Zebra Obliquidens or Latifasciata Cichlid, originates from Lake Kyoga and Lake Victoria in Uganda. Males display vivid vertical orange and yellow banding with egg spots on the anal fin; females are silvery with faint bars. An active mouthbrooder that is easier to manage than many Victorian cichlids — males are less prone to extreme aggression. A great entry point into Victorian haplochromine keeping.
Hard alkaline water (pH 7.5–8.5). Temperature 24–27 °C. Feed quality cichlid pellets and spirulina. Harem setup recommended. 120 L for a trio. Provide rock piles and open swimming space.
