Turbo fluctuosa
Origin: Gulf of Mexico
The Zebra Turbo Snail (Turbo fluctuosa 'Zebra' variant) features a distinctively striped shell of alternating dark and light bands, distinguishing it from the standard Mexican Turbo Snail while sharing its renowned voracious appetite for hair algae, microalgae, and film algae on rock and glass surfaces. Among the most effective large-scale algae consumers available for reef aquariums, it is an essential member of a well-balanced marine clean-up crew.
Provide a minimum 75 L reef tank with ample live rock surface for grazing. Supplement with algae sheets when natural algae coverage is low. Maintain temperature 22–27°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Provide adequate calcium (400+ ppm) for healthy shell growth. These snails can accidentally knock over unsecured frags and small rocks — ensure rockwork is stable. May occasionally need to be righted if flipped onto their back as they can struggle to self-right.
