Zoanthus sp.
Origin: Indo-Pacific (aquacultured)
Blue Hornets Zoanthids are a highly popular aquacultured colour morph of Zoanthus sp. displaying vivid blue and yellow two-tone polyp colouration — a combination that shimmers brilliantly under reef lighting. Zoanthids are among the hardiest and most beginner-friendly coral types available, tolerating a wide range of light intensities and moderate nutrient levels. They spread readily across available rock surface via runners, creating colourful carpets that bring dynamic colour to reef compositions.
Low to high PAR (50–400+) — adaptable to most light intensities. Moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 23–28°C. Tolerates moderate nutrients. Can spread aggressively — monitor and control with a coral saw if necessary. WARNING: Zoanthids and Palythoa contain palytoxin — wear nitrile gloves when handling and never frag near eyes or mouth. Do not boil or use bleach on equipment that has been in contact with zoanthids without full protective equipment.
