Zorro Myloplus

Myloplus zorroi was formally described in 2018 and hails from the Tapajós and Xingu river systems of the Brazilian Amazon — two of the most biodiverse and scientifically significant rivers in South America. It is a large, deep-bodied pacu with subtle lateral markings on a silver base, and like all Myloplus represents the product of a complex taxonomic revision that separated many former Myleus species into a new genus based on morphological and genetic evidence.

Being a relatively newly described species, Myloplus zorroi is only occasionally available from specialist importers and represents an interesting addition to the collection of any serious South American large fish enthusiast. Its care requirements follow the standard Myloplus pattern: very large aquarium, excellent filtration, soft warm water, and a plant-based diet. Live plants will be consumed.

Myloplus zorroi is peaceful and compatible with other large, non-aggressive South American fish. It is particularly well-suited to Xingu-biotope style large aquariums featuring smooth river stones, sand substrate, and strong current. Given its relatively new description and limited availability, it is one of the more desirable Myloplus species for specialist collectors.

Water: Soft, pH 5.5–7.0, 24–28°C; very clean water; strong directional flow appreciated. Tank: 1000 L minimum; Xingu biotope style with river stones and sand; artificial plants only. Feeding: Vegetable-based — fruits, greens, algae wafers, and quality herbivore pellets. Breeding: Not documented; recently described species still poorly known in captivity. Compatibility: Peaceful with other large non-aggressive SA species.
