Alternanthera reineckii 'Roseafolia Big Form'
Also known as: Big Form Rosaefolia, Large Pink Alternanthera
Origin: South America (cultivar)
Alternanthera reineckii 'Roseafolia Big Form' is a large-leaved selection within the rosaefolia colour group, notable for producing broader, more prominent leaves than the standard rosaefolia form. This gives it a bolder, more imposing appearance in the aquascape — particularly effective in the background of Dutch-style tanks where tall, wide colour columns are desirable. The foliage retains the characteristic pink-rose blending of the rosaefolia group but with greater visual presence due to the increased leaf area. Cultivation requirements mirror other reineckii forms: high light, CO2 injection, and iron-rich fertilisation produce the best results. A rewarding plant for aquascapers seeking scale and colour impact.
Light: High (50+ PAR); larger leaves need strong light for full colour expression. CO2: Required at 25–35 mg/L; prevents leggy, pale growth. Fertilisation: Comprehensive iron-rich dosing 2–3 times per week. Placement: Background in Dutch-style aquariums; plant in groups of 5–7 stems. Propagation: Cut 8–12 cm tip sections; trim regularly to maintain density.
