Limnophila indica
Origin: Tropical Asia, Africa
Limnophila indica, sold throughout Europe as Ambulia, produces elegant whorls of narrow, finely divided leaves along upright stems, creating a delicately feathery, soft visual texture in the aquarium that contrasts beautifully with broader-leaved plants. It is a fast-growing species that provides excellent oxygen production during the day and serves as effective biological filtration via nutrient uptake. A long-standing staple of Belgian and Dutch aquarium trade benches and one of the most affordable stem plants available.
Plant stems in bunches of 3–5 directly in substrate. Provide medium to high lighting for densest growth. No CO₂ required but responds well to CO₂ supplementation with faster, more compact growth. Feed with liquid fertilizers for best colour. Trim tops regularly — Ambulia grows rapidly and can reach the surface within weeks. Cuttings can be replanted immediately. Suitable for pH 6.0–8.0, temperature 22–28°C.
