Ammannia multiflora
Also known as: Many-Flower Ammannia, Orange Ammannia
Origin: South / Southeast Asia
Ammannia multiflora is a tropical stem plant found across South and Southeast Asia that offers the warm orange-red colouration typical of the Ammannia genus in a slightly more slender and willowy form than A. gracilis. Under high light and iron-rich fertilisation its narrow, lance-shaped leaves transition from olive-green to vivid orange-red, creating striking warm-toned columns in the background of planted aquariums. CO2 injection and soft, slightly acidic water bring out the best in this species. It is a moderately challenging plant that rewards the effort with reliably warm colouration and an elegant, refined appearance suited to both Dutch and nature aquascaping styles.
Light: High (45–60 PAR); orange-red colouration requires strong lighting. CO2: Recommended at 20–30 mg/L; significantly improves colour and compact growth. Fertilisation: Iron and micronutrient dosing 2–3 times weekly; comprehensive macro nutrients needed. Placement: Background accent columns; effective in groups of 5–7 stems. Propagation: Trim 8–10 cm tips and replant; side shoots emerge after trimming.
