About

Ammannia praetermissa is a striking West African stem plant with narrow, olive-green to reddish leaves that intensify dramatically in colour under high lighting and with consistent CO₂ and nutrient supply, developing brilliant crimson upper leaves that create a spectacular display in mature planted aquariums. One of the more demanding Ammannia species, it rewards the patient, disciplined aquascaper with results that few other red plants can match for depth and vibrancy of colour. Best grown in soft, slightly acidic water with CO₂ supplementation and regular complete liquid fertilizer dosing.

Care Guide

Plant in nutrient-rich substrate under very high-intensity lighting (50+ PAR). CO₂ injection at 25–35 ppm is required for best colour and compact growth habit. Dose complete liquid fertilizers with particular emphasis on iron. Trim stem tops regularly to encourage lateral branching. Soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.5) at 22–28°C. Growth is moderate — patience is required for the red colour to fully develop.
