Anubias afzelii
Also known as: Broad Leaf Afzelii, Wide-leaf West African Anubias
Origin: West Africa
Anubias afzelii 'Broad Leaf' is a selected cultivar of the West African Anubias afzelii, chosen for leaves that are noticeably wider than the standard narrow-leaved form of the species. The leaves remain elongated but gain a fuller, more lush profile in rich, deep green. Like all Anubias, it is remarkably hardy and tolerant of a huge range of aquarium conditions. Its broader leaf form creates a bolder visual impression and works as both a hardscape-mounted specimen and a free-standing midground plant. An excellent choice for aquarists wanting the elegance of the afzelii form with a more substantial leaf presence.
Light: Low to moderate; tolerates very low light conditions without leaf loss. CO2: Not required; one of the most low-maintenance aquarium plants available. Fertilisation: Light liquid fertilisation; root tabs if planted in substrate. Placement: Midground; can be attached to driftwood, rock, or planted in substrate. Propagation: Rhizome division; cut cleanly and attach or plant new sections.
