Anubias barteri
Origin: West Africa
Anubias barteri is the standard-size species of Anubias, producing broader and longer leaves than the popular nana variety, giving it a bolder, more imposing visual presence in the aquarium. Like all Anubias, it is an epiphyte best attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate, and it is extremely tolerant of low light, hard water, and wide pH ranges. A perennially popular and dependable plant in aquarium shops across Belgium and the Netherlands, used widely in both planted tanks and cichlid aquariums.
Attach the rhizome to driftwood or rock. Do not bury the rhizome in substrate. Low to medium lighting is ideal; also adapts to higher light setups. No CO₂ required. Feed via liquid fertilizer in the water column. Suitable for both soft-water planted tanks and hard-water cichlid aquariums. Remove old or damaged leaves to encourage new growth. Robust enough to tolerate most cichlid species except dedicated plant-eaters.
