Anubias barteri var. nana 'Coin'
Also known as: Coin Anubias, Round Nana Anubias
Origin: Cultivar (originally West Africa)
Anubias barteri var. nana 'Coin' is a carefully selected cultivar producing leaves that are notably more orbicular — almost perfectly round — compared to the slightly elongated leaves of standard nana. The consistent circular outline gives groups of this plant a particularly neat, structured appearance when arranged on hardscape, almost like a string of green coins laid across the rockwork.
In terms of care, 'Coin' is as resilient and undemanding as any Anubias. It attaches to hardscape via its creeping rhizome, tolerates low light and a broad range of water chemistry, and grows slowly but reliably. The clean, symmetrical leaf shape makes it an excellent complementary plant to jagged-edged mosses or feathery ferns.
This cultivar works well in both Nature and Dutch aquascape styles, and is equally at home in a simple community tank. It is safe with all fish and shrimp species.
Light: low light sufficient; medium light promotes slightly more compact growth and deeper green colouration. CO2: not required; optional CO2 supports modest growth improvement. Fertilisation: monthly liquid micronutrient dose maintains healthy foliage; not demanding. Placement: attach to foreground or midground rocks; rounded leaves display best when spaced slightly apart on open hardscape. Propagation: divide rhizome with a clean cut, ensuring 2–3 leaves per section; reattach with cotton thread.
