Anubias barteri var. nana
Also known as: Stardust Anubias, Variegated Nana Anubias
Origin: West Africa (cultivar)
Anubias barteri var. nana 'Stardust' is an unusual and highly prized variegated cultivar of the ubiquitous Anubias barteri var. nana. It displays irregular pale cream to white speckles, flecks and patches across otherwise dark green leaves, giving it a uniquely luminous, starlit appearance in the aquarium. Like other variegated Anubias, it grows very slowly — even by Anubias standards — and requires moderate to reasonable lighting to sustain the white pigmentation without reverting to pure green. It is best grown in a tank where it can be observed up close, since its beauty is most apparent at short range. A conversation piece for any serious planted tank.
Light: Moderate; required to maintain variegation — very low light may cause reversion to green. CO2: Not required; stable, low-stress conditions support the slow-growing variegated form. Fertilisation: Light liquid and root feeding; avoid over-fertilisation which can stress variegated tissue. Placement: Foreground to midground; best observed at close range in a nano or display tank. Propagation: Very slow rhizome division; exercise patience and handle with utmost care.
