Anubias gilletii
Also known as: Tall Anubias, Gillet's Anubias
Origin: Central and West Africa
Anubias gilletii is a graceful, tall-growing species from Central and West Africa, distinguished by its narrow, elongated leaves held high on slender but sturdy petioles. This upright growth habit gives it a very different visual character from the sprawling, low forms more commonly seen in the hobby. Leaves are deep green and leathery, sharing the long lifespan and robustness characteristic of the genus. Its height makes it particularly suited to the midground or background of larger aquariums. Like all Anubias, it should not be buried in substrate — the rhizome should be attached to hardscape or left free on the surface of the substrate.
Light: Low to moderate; very tolerant of shade — excellent under a dense plant canopy. CO2: Not required; undemanding and well-suited to low-tech aquariums. Fertilisation: Light liquid fertilisation; rhizome-attached plants benefit from water column nutrients. Placement: Midground to background; attach to tall pieces of driftwood for best effect. Propagation: Rhizome division; cut into sections with 2–3 leaves each.
