Aponogeton capuronii
Also known as: Capuron's Aponogeton Bulb Pack
Origin: Madagascar
This bulb pack format makes the rare Malagasy species Aponogeton capuronii accessible to a wider audience at a more affordable price point than established potted specimens. Each dormant corm is sourced from cultivated stock and individually inspected before dispatch. The corms are packed in barely moist substrate material to maintain viability during transit.
Planting is straightforward: bury each bulb halfway into a nutrient-rich, fine-grained substrate with the growing tip pointing upward and just exposed. In soft, slightly acidic water at 22–28 °C, the first broad, crinkle-surfaced olive-green leaves will typically emerge within 2–4 weeks. Growth from bulb stage allows the aquarist to observe the full developmental arc of the plant from dormancy to mature rosette.
For Aponogeton collectors, a dormant bulb pack is often the most affordable and logistically straightforward way to add a new Malagasy species to a collection, particularly for species like A. capuronii that are rarely available as established plants.
Light: Medium to high; consistent moderate-bright light from the moment of planting encourages rapid emergence. CO2: Beneficial; injection at 15 mg/l from establishment supports good early leaf development. Fertilisation: Rich substrate such as ADA Amazonia or equivalent; root tab placed 5 cm from the bulb. Placement: Plant bulbs at the rear of the aquarium, half-buried, with 20 cm of clear space around each. Propagation: Offset bulbs produced after flowering; collect when 2 cm and replant or store dry.
