Aponogeton guillotii
Also known as: Guillot's Aponogeton Bulb Pack
Origin: Madagascar
This bulb pack of Aponogeton guillotii provides dormant, cultivated corms of this lesser-known but beautifully understated Malagasy species. Growing A. guillotii from bulb stage allows the aquarist to experience the full lifecycle of the plant, from dormant corm to the elegant translucent-green, gently rippled rosette that characterises this species at maturity.
Plant each bulb halfway into a fine, nutrient-rich substrate with the growing tip just exposed. In soft, slightly acidic water at 22–28 °C under moderate light, emergence typically occurs within 2–3 weeks. The initial leaves are narrow and simple; the characteristic gentle rippling of the margin develops as the plant matures and the substrate root system becomes established.
For collectors wanting to expand their Malagasy Aponogeton holdings with a genuine botanical species rather than a commonplace cultivar, this bulb pack of A. guillotii represents excellent value and an opportunity to cultivate a plant that remains genuinely uncommon in the hobby.
Light: Medium; 10 hours of moderate light from emergence onward; avoid interruptions that trigger dormancy. CO2: Not required but beneficial; modest injection at 10–15 mg/l accelerates establishment from bulb. Fertilisation: Rich substrate plus root tab placed 5 cm from bulb; liquid micronutrients at half-dose weekly. Placement: Plant bulbs 20 cm apart at the midground to background; growing tip just above substrate surface. Propagation: Offsets produced at the corm base; harvest when 2 cm and replant or store.
