Aponogeton sp.
Also known as: Red Aponogeton Bulb Pack, Burgundy Aponogeton Bulb
Origin: Unknown / cultivated
This bulb pack contains dormant corms of the undescribed Aponogeton sp. 'Red', a collector's item prized for the striking burgundy-to-deep-red leaf colouration that develops under bright, full-spectrum light and iron-rich fertilisation. Growing from bulb stage allows the aquarist to observe the gradual intensification of red pigmentation as the plant matures and its root system establishes.
Initial leaves from dormant bulbs may emerge with a greenish tinge before the characteristic red colouration develops over successive leaves. Bright light and CO2 supplementation accelerate this process. Iron supplementation is particularly important for the development and maintenance of deep red pigmentation.
Each bulb pack contains individually inspected, viable dormant corms from cultivated stock. This format is ideal for collectors wanting to grow multiple specimens for comparative study or for aquascapers wanting a reliable source of these striking red-leaved plants to establish as centrepiece background features.
Light: High; the red colouration only fully develops under strong, full-spectrum lighting from the outset. CO2: Recommended; injection at 20–25 mg/l from establishment accelerates colour development and growth. Fertilisation: Iron-rich substrate or frequent iron dosing; root tabs every 6–8 weeks; micronutrients weekly. Placement: Background centrepiece; plant bulbs with growing tips just above substrate, 20 cm apart. Propagation: Offset bulbs at the corm base; red colouration is reliably transmitted to daughter bulbs.
