Aponogeton ulvaceus Bulb Pack

Aponogeton ulvaceus is one of the most popular and widely grown Malagasy Aponogeton species, and for good reason: it grows vigorously, produces impressively wide and attractively ruffled translucent leaves, and tolerates a broader range of conditions than many of its Malagasy relatives. This bulb pack format offers excellent value for aquarists wanting to grow the plant from its dormant corm stage.

Each bulb in the pack is a viable dormant corm sourced from cultivated stock. Plant bulbs halfway into a nutrient-rich substrate with the growing tip pointing upward and just above the substrate surface. Under moderate light and warm water between 22 and 28 °C, the first leaves typically emerge within 2–4 weeks.

A. ulvaceus grows quickly once established and can produce leaves up to 50–60 cm long. After several months of active growth it may enter a dormancy period lasting 4–8 weeks; this is entirely normal and the plant will re-emerge afterwards with renewed vigour. The bulb pack is an ideal gift for aquarists new to Aponogeton.

Light: Medium; grows well under standard community aquarium lighting without high-tech supplementation. CO2: Not required; one of the most forgiving Malagasy species regarding CO2 and water chemistry. Fertilisation: Root tabs every 8 weeks; occasional liquid micronutrient dosing maintains leaf quality. Placement: Background; plant bulbs at least 20 cm apart to allow full rosette development. Propagation: Offset bulbs produced prolifically; separate when 2–3 cm and replant to expand the collection.
