Blyxa aubertii
Also known as: Large Blyxa, Aubert's Blyxa
Origin: Asia / Africa
Blyxa aubertii is found across tropical Asia and Africa, growing in slow-moving or still waters with soft, slightly acidic conditions. Its leaves are notably longer and more arching than B. japonica, creating a graceful, sweeping habit that suits larger aquarium compositions. Like its smaller relative, it grows as a single-stemmed rosette-like plant that benefits from CO2 and iron supplementation to achieve its best form. It is a versatile species that works well as a midground accent in both Nature Aquarium and biotope-style layouts.
Light: Medium (30–60 PAR); grows well under moderate lighting with CO2. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; improves leaf length, sweep, and overall vitality. Fertiliser: Regular balanced NPK plus iron; ensure sufficient micronutrients. Planting: Midground individual plants or groups of 3; space 6–8 cm apart. Growth: Moderate; 20–40 cm; longer leaves than B. japonica; suits larger tanks.
