Bolbitis heudelotii — Congo Fern

Bolbitis heudelotii, the Congo Water Fern, is a beautiful dark-green fern with deeply lobed, translucent fronds that sway gracefully in current. Native to fast-flowing African rivers, it attaches to rocks and driftwood via rhizome. One of the more striking mid-background ferns for planted aquariums.

Attach rhizome to hardscape with black cotton thread or super glue. Never bury the rhizome — it will rot. Moderate to high flow helps the fronds unfurl. CO2 and moderate light accelerate growth. Grows slowly but develops into a spectacular specimen over time. Soft, slightly acidic water preferred.
