Bucephalandra sp. 'Brownie Ghost'
Also known as: Buce Brownie Ghost, Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost
Origin: Borneo, Indonesia
Buce Brownie Ghost (Bucephalandra sp. 'Brownie Ghost') is a premium named variety of Bucephalandra from Borneo, featuring dark bronze-brown leaves accented by a pattern of iridescent silver-blue spots or speckles — the 'ghost' markings that give this variety its evocative name. Its striking colour combination, rarity in the trade, and fully low-maintenance care needs make it one of the most desirable aquascape collectibles available. Under quality lighting the metallic speckling appears to glow.
Light: low to medium light; quality LED lighting with a broad spectrum best reveals the iridescent ghost patterning. CO2: beneficial; CO2 and soft water improve growth rate and intensify the bronze-brown colouration. Attachment: glue or tie rhizome to smooth, dark stones or driftwood to contrast with the bronze leaf colour. Trimming: remove old or damaged leaves at the rhizome base; handle carefully to preserve the delicate leaf surface. Growth: very slow; propagate only by careful rhizome division of established specimens.
