Bucephalandra 'Lamandau Mini Red'

Bucephalandra 'Lamandau Mini Red' hails from the Lamandau river drainage of Central Kalimantan and represents the compelling combination of miniature size, vivid red-tinged colouration, and Bucephalandra's characteristic iridescence. Leaves are small — typically 1.5–3 cm — and display warm reddish-brown tones with a glossy surface that shimmers under appropriate lighting.

The Lamandau drainage is known for producing some of the most colourful and distinctive Bucephalandra varieties, and 'Mini Red' is among the most coveted. Its small size makes it perfectly suited to nano aquascaping where it can serve as a jewel-like accent on a carefully chosen stone. In larger tanks it is best used in groups or in combination with other small-scale epiphytes.

CO2 supplementation and soft water conditions are more important for this variety than for hardier Anubias — without them, growth becomes extremely slow and the red colouration may fade toward olive-brown. Under good conditions with CO2, medium light, and iron-rich fertilisation, the red tones are vivid and consistent.

Light: medium light with good iron availability is essential for maintaining the characteristic red-tinged leaf colouration. CO2: strongly recommended; red tones and leaf production are noticeably poor without CO2 supplementation. Fertilisation: iron-rich liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks; the red colouration is directly enhanced by available iron in the water column. Placement: foreground in nano tanks or as accent plants on small stones in larger layouts; group for maximum colour impact. Propagation: carefully divide rhizome into 2-leaf minimum sections; this is a slow-growing collector variety — handle with care.
