Bucephalandra motleyana
Also known as: Large Motleyana Buce, Buce Motleyana Large
Origin: Borneo, Malaysia
The large form of Bucephalandra motleyana is distinguished from standard material by its significantly broader and longer leaves, which can reach 12–15 cm at maturity and create a much more imposing presence on hardscape. Its glossy, deep-green to olive-green leaves carry the characteristic subtle iridescence of the genus. Mounted on large pieces of driftwood or rock, a mature colony develops a lush, textured appearance reminiscent of its natural streamside habitat in Borneo. It is one of the more rewarding buces to grow to specimen size.
Light: Low to medium; 20–45 PAR; tolerates low-light corners. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 slightly accelerates growth. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Planting: Attach large rhizome sections to driftwood or stone with fishing line or glue. Growth: Slow; allow ample space for the rhizome to expand over months.
