Bucephalandra sp. 'Natasha'
Also known as: Natasha Buce, Natasha Bucephalandra
Origin: Borneo (Kalimantan)
Bucephalandra 'Natasha' is a personally named cultivar — a tradition in the Bornean epiphyte collecting community where exceptional finds are named after the discoverer or their loved ones. It produces medium-sized, smooth, well-proportioned oval leaves with a consistent blue-green iridescence that is reliable across both young and mature foliage, making the plant uniformly attractive at all stages of leaf development.
Unlike some Bucephalandra cultivars whose iridescence is dramatically intense but inconsistent or light-angle-dependent, 'Natasha' offers a dependable, always-visible shimmer that reads well under normal aquarium viewing conditions. This consistency of appearance makes it an excellent choice for aquascapers who value reliable beauty over occasional spectacle.
Care follows the standard Bucephalandra protocol. It is moderately adaptable for the genus, performing adequately across a somewhat wider range of water hardness than the most demanding varieties. CO2 and medium light remain the recommended approach for best leaf production and colour.
Light: low to medium; the reliable blue-green iridescence is consistently visible across a range of lighting conditions. CO2: recommended; CO2 supplementation delivers the most reliable improvement in leaf production frequency. Fertilisation: light liquid micronutrient dosing every 3–4 weeks; moderate water quality maintenance more impactful than heavy fertilisation. Placement: foreground to midground on any attractive hardscape; versatile placement works in most aquascape styles and tank sizes. Propagation: divide rhizome into 2–3 leaf sections; consistent iridescent quality is fully retained in all divisions.
