Bucephalandra 'Silver Bullet'

Bucephalandra 'Silver Bullet' is immediately distinctive among the predominantly dark-toned Bucephalandra cultivars by the silvery-grey quality of its leaves — a cool, metallic base colour overlaid with a shimmering metallic iridescence that reflects light with exceptional clarity. The effect under LED lighting is reminiscent of polished platinum or mercury, a cool, technological beauty that contrasts dramatically with the organic textures of rocks, driftwood, and green plants.

The silvery colouration is most intense on young to mid-age leaves and tends to develop a slight greenish tinge on fully mature foliage, but even mature leaves retain an attractive metallic sheen. The plant grows at a modest pace typical for the genus on a compact, slowly creeping rhizome.

'Silver Bullet' works exceptionally well in modern, minimalist aquascape designs where its metallic quality complements architectural hardscape arrangements. It is particularly striking against dark volcanic rock or black sand substrate where the silver-grey colour stands out maximally. Care requirements are standard for the genus.

Light: low to medium; cool-white or daylight-spectrum LED maximises the metallic silver quality of the leaf colour and iridescence. CO2: recommended; CO2 supplementation supports consistent leaf production and maintains the intensity of the metallic colouration. Fertilisation: light liquid micronutrient dosing every 3–4 weeks; moderate conditions are preferred over heavy fertilisation. Placement: foreground to midground on dark volcanic rock or against black substrate; silver leaves contrast maximally with dark backgrounds. Propagation: divide rhizome into 2–3 leaf sections with a clean blade; silver metallic quality is consistently retained in all healthy divisions.
